PTA Provides a Fresh Look

Posted on October 12, 2016 at 11:05 AM

Thanks to the talents and effort of three of our PTA members, the gymnasium lobby and the teachers’ lounge received a wonderful facelift over the summer. April Smith and Linda Zangrilli gave the gym lobby a dynamic T.J. flare, including a great-looking jaguar logo. Linda and Laurie Woodward converted the old teachers’ lounge into a contemporary space with a fresh color palette, new cabinet hardware, and complimentary decorator accents. Both projects greatly enhance the atmosphere at McClellan!

PTA Council to Hold Stress & Anxiety Panel

Posted on October 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM

The West Jefferson Hills School District Council of PTAs will host an informational session for parents on student stress and anxiety. The panel will discuss how parents might recognize the signs and symptoms of stress or anxiety in their children, and will propose ideas to help both parents and students cope with these issues. The discussion will encompass all school age children from kindergartners who struggle with separation anxiety through high school juniors or seniors stressed out about Advanced Placement exams or choosing the right college or career path. Scheduled among the presenters will be Jeff Devinney, West Jefferson Hills School District Social Worker; Erin McManus, the Outpatient Supervisor at Mon Yough Community Services, and Rusty Hewitt from the Allegheny County Bureau of Mental Health Services. The panel will speak for approximately one hour and afterwards there will be a thirty minute question and answer session for the parents in attendance. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 7:00 pm in the LGI Room at Pleasant Hills Middle School. Parents from nearby communities are also welcome to attend.
